Present at GEWKC 2020: Submit Your In-Person or Virtual Community Event

If you want to present at Global Entrepreneurship Week – Kansas City (Nov. 16-20), the metro’s largest annual celebration of entrepreneurship, here’s your chance to share your knowledge, build your network and rally around other business owners during this unprecedented time. And you don’t have to live near KC to submit an event for GEWKC.

This year, in addition to GEWKC Prime-Time Events, Global Entrepreneurship Week – Kansas City is also expanding its reach across the city, the region and the state of Missouri by inviting the entrepreneurial community to submit GEWKC Community Events.

Prime-Time Events are hosted only on an interactive online platform and must cover specific topics; those events also only take place from Nov. 17-19 for just fours each day.

But GEWKC Community Events, on the other hand, are held throughout the day and all week long. Events can also be held in person, as long as event hosts follow health and safety regulations and guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

So let’s dig in! Are you ready to submit a GEWKC Community Event?

From now and through Nov. 11, you can submit your GEWKC Community Event idea to help aspiring entrepreneurs and existing small business owners build their operations and be more resilient for the future. Community Events can be:

  • Virtual or small, in-person events, which must follow health and safety guidelines

  • located throughout the greater KC metro and beyond scheduled for Nov. 16 through Nov. 20, excluding GEWKC Prime-Time hours on Nov. 17, 1-5 p.m.; Nov. 18, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; Nov. 19, 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

And these events, just like the GEWKC Prime-Time events, are vital to help our doers, dreamers and makers at a time when this year’s GEWKC is more important than ever.

If your GEWKC Community Event is approved, it will be included on the GEWKC agenda at gewkc.org, along with GEWKC Prime-Time Events, which were published mid-October. And this is your chance to make a difference for our entrepreneurial community.

This has been an unprecedented year for our businesses, so GEWKC 2020 will feature events to help our entrepreneurs with key areas of assistance as well as provide plenty of virtual networking opportunities to connect with fellow business owners, experts and other contacts who can help move small businesses forward. And that’s where you come in.

Here’s what you need to know to make sure you’re ready to submit and present a GEWKC Community Event:

GEWKC Community Event Checklist for Prospective Hosts

Here are some key things you should know before you submit a Community Event:

☑️ Submit your Community Event idea early

Because hosts must promote their own events, we recommend you submit your GEWKC Community Event ideas early so you can have the maximum amount of time to plug yourvirtual or in-person session weeks before Global Entrepreneurship Week – Kansas City kicks off. This will help you attract the most attendees to your session so you can help more small business owners.

☑️ Get the right equipment and software

Hosts who have a GEWKC Community Event accepted for GEWKC 2020 must provide their own virtual link and platform and must have the appropriate hardware and software for attendees to access their respective event.

☑️ Include the link to your virtual event with your submission

When you submit your Community Event idea, you’ll also include the link to your virtual event, so have that ready. Why? When attendees visit gewkc.org, they can register for your event and will have your virtual event link, right in their custom agenda.

☑️ Follow local health and safety guidelines

If you choose to host a small, in-person event, make sure you know and follow your local health and safety guidelines. In-person events are held at the discretion of the host (that’s you).

☑️ Know when you can schedule your Community Event

GEWKC Community Events also cannot take place at the same time as Prime-Time Events, which are in four-hour blocks from Nov. 17-19. Submissions for Prime-Time Events closed Sept. 25. Community Events must take place outside the following times from Nov. 16-20:

  • 1 – 5 p.m. Nov. 17

  • 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Nov. 18

  • 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. Nov. 19

☑️ Make your event interactive and engaging

For this year’s virtual format, GEWKC Community hosts should also think about incorporating interactive breakout sessions and ways for attendees to actively engage with the content.

☑️ Keep your attendees informed

GEWKC Community hosts can download the names and emails of attendees who have added the event on the gewkc.org agenda and send attendees updates.
